A music junkie, sports fanatic, video gamer, DJ and all around jack of all trades. These are the characteristics of DJ Rock Ya Body, a veteran DJ who got his start at age four. Born Tommy L. Evans Jr., DJ Rock Ya Body is from a small town in Mississippi called Natchez.
"I have loved music ever since I could remember." declares DJ Rock Ya Body. "My mother was nervous about letting me have my first record player at age four. She didn't know that that gift is where it all began!"
At the age of six, DJ Rock Ya Body had at least 40 gospel records and at one time, tested his DJ skills with those very records, scratching on them as a veteran DJ would. The first DJ he ever saw in action was his uncle. Blown away by his skills and talent with the turntables, he fell in love with the craft of deejaying.
"It was love at first sound!" he exclaims.
DJ Rock Ya Body became somewhat of his apprentice. He would help him carry his crate of vinyl records and help him in any way he needed. Throughout grade school, he had collected tons of CDs. By the time he was in college at Alcorn State University, he had a different taste in music than others around him did. His peers began to respect his attitude towards and taste in music.
"I started really getting into what I thought was deejaying while I was in college just to make some extra money."
By 2009, DJ Rock Ya Body had relocated to Baton Rouge, LA and it was there that he made the decision to move forward and not look back. He bought some turntables along with a mixer and other equipment. He practiced religiously, but it felt as if he was just spinning wheels. His new career really wasn't going anywhere. After much encouragement from his number one fan, his mother, DJ Rock Ya Body decided to press on. From then on, his entire outlook changed.
"I was all the way 1000% with the dream I had at four years old."
At this point, it wasn't about money anymore. It was about the love of music and the craft of deejaying.
"When I deejay, it’s the soundtrack of my soul on display, live and in your face!"
It was then that he and his brothers formed S.C.U.M. Life Entertainment, which is an acronym that promotes success. It is within the dirt, grime and rubbish that a diamond, one of earth's most precious jewels, is found.
"And here I stand, drenched in blood, sweat, pain and tears...DJ Rock Ya Body. I've never said that I was perfect, nor without any flaws, but I wake up everyday blessed beyond measure. My goal is to be the best at anything I do. I am motivated by success because I was taught that without the struggle, there is no progression...without pain, there is no gain...without rain, the appreciation of sunshine just isn't the same."
